Discord going public and changing CEO's
« on: Yesterday at 03:16:47 AM »
https://discord.com/blog/passing-the-torch this was posted today.

Seems like a lot of people are pretty worried that Discord is going to enstrawberriestify after this, which is probably likely to happen.

And a bunch of messaging history and stuff will once again be lost when guilds get deleted.

This is why I'm such an outspoken proponent of small, interest-specific, and independent forums such as this one, bulbagarden, etc.

I'm worried that they're planning to go public. This will probably mean that they're going to start trying to make Discord more profitable so it might just end up like Reddit but for private chats (although demographics-wise it basically is).

I've always been a bit puzzled on how Discord can run on a profit. They don't have already existing servers like Google or other big tech companies and I can't convince myself that selling user data and nitro is enough for all of that.
